One day, that is all it took for me to finish “I Am the Messenger.” Now after reading this book with a pretty heavy ending and thoughts jumping around my head I have to blog about one part of the book. So I am blogging about part 1 and why I liked it. In part one we get an introduction to the main character Ed and his friends. The book starts off in a very memorable “you're going to read this” fashion. In the beginning Ed and his friends find themselves in the middle of a bank robbery. The dialogue during this is hilarious. In a situation were most people would be scared stiff, Ed and his friends can't help but bicker over a car. Obviously the bank robber doesn't take well to this and the laughs pick up from there. Shortly there after, Ed ends up a hero so to speak. Moving forward, the plot of the book develops when Ed receives a card in the mail. This card sends him on a series of missions in which not only does he confront the task but he also confronts himself. There are many parts throughout this that are exciting, horrible, and touching. I really liked this part of the book because I could connect to the main character. He is dealing with the recent loss of a parent as I am currently. Also I feel in many ways as well that I am just living a life of mediocrity and so does Ed. The title of this book could not be more fitting. Recently, with life putting pressure on me and my melancholy attitude, I have lost sight of many things. However, this book has delivered a very meaningful message to me during a hard time in my life and I am very thankful. I strongly recommend this book.
